Patient Care Staff

Hi, my name is Mekenze, and I am the Technical Director and an RVT at North Powers Animal Hospital. I am passionate about providing high-quality care and helping my patients feel comfortable and confident in their treatment.

Personal Hobbies and Interests

One of my greatest personal interests is serving my local church and investing in my community. I serve on both the worship and announcement teams and have the privilege of being part of the leadership at my church, where I enjoy using my time and talents to serve others and help create meaningful experiences for our community. At home I have two cats: Bubbles, my youngest, a shy but extremely affectionate domestic long-haired black cat with green eyes; and Bamboo, my three-year-old domestic long-haired lynx point Siamese with huge baby blue eyes. Bamboo has two brain cells — I call them cute and chaos, and chaos usually wins. He doesn't quite know he's a cat and loves being around people.

Favorite Part of My Job

I love surgery and handling exotic pets. One of my favorite things about being a veterinary nurse or technician is that we get to play the role of anesthesiologist, surgical tech, dental technician, radiologist, phlebotomist, and every other role, all combined into one.

Why I Chose This Profession

During a difficult season in my life, I experienced firsthand the incredible comfort, companionship, and sense of safety that an animal can provide. Having an animal by my side gave me something to look forward to, helped me feel grounded during hard moments, and reminded me that I was not alone. That experience showed me just how powerful the human-animal bond can be, and because of the impact an animal had on my own life, I developed a passion for helping others experience that same support. My goal is to care for the animals that bring companionship, encouragement, and hope to people who need it most.

Education

I graduated from PIMA Medical Institute in Colorado Springs with an associate degree in applied animal sciences, and I am a licensed veterinary technician.

Professional Background

I serve as the lead technician and Technical Director of North Powers Animal Hospital.
